Monday, Dec 3
Had a very low-key day on Monday.
Class at 8.30 (no fires this time), then just chilling in my room the
rest of the day. I watched Some Like It Hot, which I unfortunately
found fairly boring, though I do really like Marilyn Monroe and Jack
Lemon. I also made some amazing lentil soup. Just threw some
lentils, onions, and tomatoes in a pot of boiling water with some
salt, pepper, curry, paprika, and chili sauce. Yum!
Tuesday, Dec 4
Tuesday afternoon I went to Rosie's
with her to walk the dog. I realized that I haven't posted any pictures from the house, so here is the view from the front yard
also, some flowers
Then we checked out this Buddhist wellness
center where Rosie scheduled a private yoga class, massage, and Reiki
session for her and Andres for Saturday for his birthday. A pretty sweet
birthday gift, I thought. Then we went out for some Peruvian food—so
good! Mine was mixed seafood in a yummy sauce.
Wednesday, Dec 5
On Wednesday I finally got my rent
paid, so I'm paid up for the rest of the time I'm here. Didn't do
much of anything else that day. Started watching American Horror
Story on my sister's recommendation. It's pretty good so far. Wow,
this week is seeming really boring so far! Good thing I actually did
something the next day...
Thursday, Dec 6
On Thursday I decided to head over to
the Cementerio General. It's a HUGE cemetery in the city. I mean
huge. There must be hundreds of thousands of people buried there—I
was afraid I might get lost! When I first walked in I was amongst
these large and beautiful tombs.
After a bit, those subsided into
walls of individual coffin holes
and later on to poorer looking ground plots with just a metal cross
marker.
This
is the Memorial
del Detenido Desaparecido y del Ejecutado PolĂtico,
a memorial to the ‘disappeared’ of Pinochet’s dictatorship.
Finally, a creepy sculpture for your enjoyment:
Friday,
Dec 7
Friday
afternoon, we went to the horse races!
Andres bet on a couple and
won 6,000 pesos. The view from the grandstand was amazing, with the
Andes in the distance turning orange and red as the sun went down.
Saturday,
Dec 8
On
Saturday I went to check out the Plaza de Armas. It's a nice plaza
with a fountain and lots of trees and benches in the middle and quite
a few important buildings surrounding it.
I got to check out the
Catedral de Santiago
the central post office
and the Museo
Historico Nacional.
I didn't have 100 pesos for a locker at the museum, so I went to go get change. I got a pop.
That's right, it's Pap! I just think that's funny. It was ok, kind of like a bland cream soda. It was a nice day, as long as you were sitting
in the shade. Oh, and I talked to this guy for a minute
Sunday,
Dec 9
Nothing
to speak of on Sunday. Was going to go to the craft market at Los
Dominicos, but ended up just chilling out instead. Perhaps we will
go another week.
Remember folks, if you would like to see the pictures better, you can just click on them to enlarge. Have a good week!
